Waterways Rug

This amazing colourful artwork titled ‘Waterways’ is by Steven Bekue an Aboriginal artist from the Bundjalung and Bidjara people. (check out more about him on Our Artists page)

The Story Behind the Design
Growing up Steven would go crabbing, fishing & oystering with his Uncles and Brothers, he always loved being near the water and continues to share that passion with his children & partner.
This amazing artwork represents the waterways for the Bundjalung people. The waterways are very important to the Bundjalung people as it is the home to a lot of their main food source, such as fish, crabs, oysters, etc. The food sources are all found in the ocean, rivers, creeks and other natural waterways such as streams, lakes, waterholes.
This rug a perfect for creating comfortable reading areas. Perfect for play-based learning, and for children to engage, connect to the stories & in turn spark conversation!

Cleaning the rug

Vacuum Regularly. Avoid any cleaning agent with bleach or strong chemicals. It is best to try an area for colourfastness before using across a large area of the rug. We recommend to use a dry powder style of cleaner as they can be vacuumed out of the rug and do not leave any residue. When cleaning, always blot, and never scrub or rub abrasively.

DO NOT run vacuum directly over outer serged edge of carpet. This can create fraying.   Clean spills immediately by blotting with a cloth or sponge. Remove any grease spots with ordinary dry cleaning solvents. If you do vacuum over the edge of the rug it can cause serge yarn to become frayed and torn. It is always best to test a cleaner on an inconspicuous spot on the carpet/rug before applying to the entire piece.
Professional or periodic cleanings using the power spray-extraction carpet cleaning method are recommended. You should have the smallest possible amount of cleaning chemical used when you hire a professional cleaner. Allow to dry flat on the floor.

Not recommended for use outdoors or in bright sunlight as the material colours may fade over time.

Such a soft feeling underfoot

This rug has made our space beautiful. The children love to run their fingers along the soft fabric and it is lovely to walk on. I really wish I could buy large sitting cushions to go with it!

Beautiful design, restful colours

The Waterways design round floor rug is the perfect rug in our quiet space at our kindergarten. It is soft, inviting, and relaxing to be on. Our children enjoy knowing the story about the design, and love using it as a place to chill out, lie on, and relax, look at a book. It’s also a perfect size for a group activity, the circle being the optimal shape to engage together. We love it!

This mat is just perfect. We put it under the gazebo at the beach and all the sand doesn’t come through! It’s really easy to clean. The bag is practical. The mat is stylish and really high quality. I can’t think of any negatives whatsoever. We love it
