Picnic Rug-'Yugari' Pipi

Sale price$99.00

This stunning design titled 'Yugari' Pipi by Bundjalung artist Holly Sanders.

The Story Behind the Design

For thousands of years Bundjalung people have harvested Yugari as an important source of protein. Pipis were pulled from the sand by performing a pipi dance. Pipis sit just below the surface of the sand and to get them up, you push your feet into the sand and do the pipi dance or shuffle. Once harvested, the pipis and were cooked on hot coals and then eaten on the beach. This evidence can be readily seen in the many ancient middens – mounds of discarded shells – that dot the dunes around Country. First Nations Saltwater People continue to maintain a connection to these areas through stories and practices of fishing, worming and collecting pipis

Our picnic rugs measure 2m length x 1.5m width. They are made from a 100% polyester canvas fabric and have been certified with the OEKO-TEX Standard 100 tick-meaning every part of this fabric has been tested for harmful substances.

They are double-sided print, UV protected, water-resistant & sandproof, and Picnic blankets come with a leather carry handle.

Care Instructions- Spot clean any messes with a damp cloth, can also be cold machine washed.
