Art Competition - Terms & Conditions
1. Competition Overview
Emro Designs is a First Nations Owned and operated homewares brand. We collaborate with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists across Australia to bring their artwork to life on rugs, wallpaper, cushions, and more.
This competition gives young First Nations artists aged 8 to 12 the opportunity to have their original artwork featured on a limited edition Emro Designs rug, sold to customers across Australia.
2. Competition Dates
Competition Opens Wednesday 13th May 2026
Entries Close Monday 6 July 2026 at 11:59pm AEST
Winner Announced During NAIDOC Week, on or around Sunday 12 July 2026
3. Eligibility
To enter, participants must:
• Identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander
• Be aged between 8 and 12 years at the time of entry
• Be a resident of Australia
• Have a parent or legal guardian complete and submit the consent form included with their entry
Employees and immediate family members of Emro Designs are not eligible to enter.
4. How to Enter
All entries must be submitted by email to marketing@emrodesigns.com.au and include all of the following:
1. A clear photograph or scan of the completed original artwork (created on canvas)
2. The title of the artwork
3. A written story behind the artwork (minimum 50 words, maximum 300 words)
4. The entrant’s full name, age and mob
5. Parent or guardian name and contact email address
6. Completed and signed Parental Consent Form
Entries that do not include all required elements will not be considered.
Each entrant may submit one entry only.
5. Artwork Requirements
• Artwork must be the entrant’s own original work, created by hand on canvas
• Artwork must not have been previously published, exhibited, or submitted to any other competition
• Artwork must not contain any offensive, violent, or culturally inappropriate content
• All styles and mediums on canvas are welcome (acrylic, watercolour, oils, mixed media)
• Artwork can be any size, however a minimum of A3 is recommended for quality reproduction
6. Judging
Entries will be judged by a panel selected by Emro Designs, which will include First Nations artists and/or community representatives. The judging panel’s decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
Entries will be assessed on:
• Originality and creativity
• Connection to culture, Country, or personal story
• Quality of the accompanying story
• Suitability for reproduction as a rug design
7. Prize
The winning artist will receive:
• Their design produced as a limited edition Emro Designs rug
• Full artist credit on all product listings, marketing materials, and the Emro Designs website
• A dedicated artist profile page on the Emro Designs website
• One complimentary rug featuring their design
• A commission on every rug sold featuring their design
The prize is non-transferable and cannot be exchanged for cash or any other product.
8. Intellectual Property & Artwork Rights
The entrant retains full ownership and copyright of their artwork at all times.
By entering the competition, the entrant (and their parent or guardian) grants Emro Designs a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to:
• Reproduce the artwork on the limited edition rug (winning entry only)
• Use photographs of the artwork and the entrant’s name for promotional and marketing purposes related to this competition and the resulting product
• Share images and the artwork story on social media, the Emro Designs website, and in email communications
This licence does not transfer ownership of the artwork. Emro Designs will not sell or licence the artwork to any third party without the written consent of the artist and their parent or guardian.
9. Finalist Recognition
Emro Designs may select up to 3 finalists whose artwork and stories will be shared on our website and social media channels during the competition period. Finalists will be notified by email prior to publication.
10. Privacy
Personal information collected as part of this competition will be used solely for the purpose of administering the competition. Emro Designs will not share personal information with any third party. Please refer to the Emro Designs Privacy Policy at emrodesigns.com.au for further information.
Images of artworks shared publicly will only include the artist’s first name and state unless otherwise agreed with the parent or guardian.
11. General
• Emro Designs reserves the right to disqualify any entry that does not comply with these Terms and Conditions
• Emro Designs reserves the right to cancel, modify, or suspend the competition if circumstances outside our control make this necessary
• By entering the competition, entrants and their parent or guardian agree to be bound by these Terms and Conditions
