This colourful rug depicts the “Three Rivers” by Bundjalung Artist Steven Bekue.
Steven is a Bundjalung and Bidjara man. He has been painting for four years and his artwork consist of animals and landscapes from my Country which is made up of dots and lines with acrylic paint.
His inspiration for his art comes from his Aboriginal background and also growing up watching Uncles, Aunties and cousins create amazing Indigenous artwork. He found a love for Aboriginal art not only because he’s passionate about his culture but it also gives him healing and coping mechanisms to express himself through art.
This artwork “Three Rivers” depicts the Tweed River, Currumbin Creek and Tallebudgera Creek. The three rivers are the water ways where Steven was taught by his family to catch fish, crabs and go oystering, now he is doing the same with his family. The Three Rivers are on Bundjalung country.
